In this post I would like to reaffirm some basics of exercises for six pack abs. The first important thing is warm-up. Most of us tend to spend very little time for this important activity. If you have a treadmill, I would recommend some gentle trot for a few minutes on it. Nothing strenuous, just enough to warm up your muscles. I have seen people getting themselves exhausted and unable to push ahead with other more important exercises. Get yourself gently warmed up and then work a bit on your upper torso and leg muscles. By this time you must feel a warm glow all over your body. Next you must move on to stomach exercises. As I have mentioned earlier the stomach is a special organ made up of several muscles. Each of them has to be exercised for six pack abs. Concentrating exclusively on your abs is not the right way. All muscles of the stomach have to be developed to get that sleek look which I am sure you fervently desire.

Did you know that stomach muscles are unique? They are made up of several layers and types. This is to ensure that the stomach remain flexible and still capable of holding the middle together. Building stomach muscles therefore means exercising several muscular tissues. That’s why there are so many stomach exercises. It is always good to know the anatomy of the stomach. If you know anatomy you will understand the reason for specific exercises. Not that it is essential but it helps.

You must know that stomach muscles are also sensitive and therefore before exercising you must first warm-up. You must also never overdo stomach crunches because you are likely to hurt yourself in the process. This is one of the reasons why many people give up their dream of a flat stomach. The quantity and quality has to be calibrated while building stomach muscles. This will tone up the muscles slowly and over a period of time, the stomach will come to shape.

Both are important. Getting rid of belly fat can prove to be a difficult task. The paunch is most obstinate creature and stubbornly sticks to the stomach like a leech. The first step to get a six pack is to starve the belly fat. As the fat melts, the muscles under it will begin to show. For this you need to exercise. As I have mentioned earlier, a holistic approach is necessary where you strengthen other muscles of the body like the upper torso and the limbs. Stomach exercises are of utmost importance and you must concentrate on them concurrently. As you lose fat from your body by taking healthy diet, your muscles will emerge out of your exercise. Both these processes happen naturally and simultaneously. The result can be astounding. You must keep your patience and must not give up your routine out of frustration. We are all metabolically different and some take less and some more time to get a six pack. But everyone eventually does if they keep the faith.

There is no shortcut to get abs. I have said this earlier and maybe repeated this a hundred times. But the question keeps coming back like a ping pong ball. The culprits are obviously guys out there pedaling spurious drugs and products at inflated price and fooling gullible people. ‘Get abs in one week’. Is this some kind of Chinese fast food? It is very much possible to get abs but there is a process. You have to go through the grind, observe some ground rules, behave yourself and keep your hunger in check. It is not difficult to do this. You can even enjoy the entire thing. For that matter you will start enjoying it when you start seeing results. Till that day, which may be six months way, you will remain in doubt. But the transformation from a ugly duckling to a beautiful swan can be dramatic and sudden. It is a kind of trigger which leads to a cascading effect. You see the results and you start putting more effort and this in turn accelerates the process.

Did I mention the cycle exercise? This is a great exercise for abs. You don’t need any equipment and you can do this even in your office, before lunch or during a break. Remember to close the door since people are sure to think you are crazy. Lie down on your back and lift your legs alternately, the left and right, till your stomach. You can repeat these fifteen or twenty times. This exercise can do wonders for your stomach. You will not even sweat while doing this exercise. The cycling exercise also helps people suffering from back problems.

Another great exercise for abs is the reverse crunch. Lie on your back and try to lift your legs to a vertical position using your abs. Keep your hands parallel to your body and on the ground. You must make sure that you use your abs to lift the legs up. This is a simple exercise and needs minimum effort.

The truth about abs workouts is that it is a natural process and therefore it takes time be effective. We start our abs workouts and immediately after a few minutes we look at ourselves in the mirror. Maybe some people get a thrill out of it but the fact remain that nothing actually happens in those few minutes. The real culprits are advertisers who claim astonishing results just to sell their program or product. They are so convincing that even intelligent and smart people start believing them. We experience the pain when we don’t lose a pound after spending dollars on the magic programs. Abs workouts are simple and there is no working around them. You have to go through the exercises and bear the pain. But there is light at the end of road. You will certainly be rewarded with six packs if you stick to the routine through hail and sunshine.

The secret of abs workout is that there is no secret. There are no hidden rules, no magic formula and no shortcuts. I know it will disappoint many of my readers and probably make me unpopular but there it is – regular, continuous and scientific abs workout is the only way to a flat stomach. There is simply no other solution. To relive yourself from the monotony of abs workout you may choose a better place than facing a blank wall. Lively music, great surroundings and elevated mood can certainly enhance the pleasure or at least take away the boredom from the abs workout.

Those who do succeed in getting six packs have confessed that it has all been a result of constant effort over a period of time. The fat around the belly does not reduce in a proportional manner. In fact, there is momentum to the entire process and once you hit the right note you are on a song.

But that doesn’t mean that using equipment is bad for your abs. In fact one of the tools I would suggest is an exercise ball. This is a great way to tighten your stomach muscles. You must be aware that there are two types of muscles in the stomach. This exercise is useful for both abdomen as well as the waist. The best thing I like about it is that you can do keep an exercise ball in your own house and do the exercise at your convenience. It helps in strengthening the back muscles which is often a problem area especially for women.

For effective abs an exercise ball has to be used in conjunction with other stomach and general exercise which I have been mentioning. Why I say this is because I have come across people who believe that all they have to do is sit on the exercise ball and they are on the way to glory and success.

There is a right way and a wrong way to a flat belly. Stomach exercises are a must if you want to get rid of your paunch. Crunches, Sit-ups can do a whole lot of good. The trick is to do it on a continuous basis. But many of us concentrate on only stomach exercises. If you could add some push-ups and pull-ups to the scheme of things it would really give a boost to your efforts. The idea is to give a proper shape to your body. The muscles get toned up in the upper and lower body and this supports the stomach muscles. Otherwise, the belly tends to sort of slump forward. I have mentioned earlier that the entire body has to be exercised while you concentrate on your stomach exercise but not exclusively. This is the secret to success. Getting rid of belly fat is difficult and the right way is the scientific way. There is no point sweating it out and getting nothing from it other than sweat.
